TunnelBear protection and reconnection controls
TunnelBear calls its reconnect protection VigilantBear. Official documentation lists it for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. This is a practical feature to check when moving between Wi-Fi networks or reconnecting after a temporary loss of service, but a documented control should not be confused with a measured result on every operating-system version.
The service offers an automatic protocol choice alongside manual options. Leave the distinction between connection protection and online identity clear: signing into an existing website account can still identify you after the exit address changes. A VPN connection does not replace account security, software updates or sensible handling of personal information.
Unlimited devices, with a narrower platform focus
TunnelBear Unlimited does not impose a fixed simultaneous-device limit. That can simplify the decision for someone who keeps several laptops, phones and tablets connected. Its native apps cover Windows, macOS, iOS and Android; browser extensions are also available, but an extension should not be treated as proof of protection for every application on the device.
Linux is a different proposition: the provider supplies manual instructions and only limited platform support. It also explicitly does not supply modem or router configurations. If you intend to protect a whole home through a router, or expect a full Linux desktop app, those limitations matter more than the number of devices allowed by the paid plan.
SplitBear options depend on the operating system
SplitBear is not identical across the native apps. Windows supports application and website exclusions. macOS and iOS provide website exclusions rather than whole-application exclusions, while Android supports app exclusions rather than website rules. Start with the particular exception you need and confirm that the device supports that form of routing.
Traffic excluded from the tunnel uses the ordinary connection, so an exception should be deliberate. TunnelBear also supplies dynamic exit addresses rather than a static-IP product. Reconnecting or changing locations can change the address. A task requiring a repeatable address for an allowlist therefore calls for another solution, rather than assuming that selecting the same country will preserve it.
The three-year first term and annual renewal
The reviewed USD offers include monthly and annual subscriptions plus a three-year first term. The longest option is paid upfront, so its low monthly equivalent is not an invitation to pay that amount every month. The comparison separates the actual initial payment from the number of months included.
The auto-renew policy separately confirms monthly and annual charges, but the three-year offer’s subsequent amount and period remain unverified here. Do not assume another three-year period at the original total, or transfer the selected annual order’s renewal wording to a different plan. Direct checkout extraction requires JavaScript; the initial figures come from the official indexed checkout. Confirm the live final amount, renewal terms and taxes before purchasing.
Who should consider TunnelBear Unlimited?
TunnelBear is a shortlist option for someone whose requirements centre on native desktop and mobile apps, a simple device allowance and selective routing supported by their platform. The documented protocol table lists WireGuard and OpenVPN across all four native operating systems, making the individual routing differences especially important when comparing otherwise similar feature lists.
Look elsewhere for supplied router configurations, a native Linux application or a static address. The Free plan offers a limited monthly data allowance and is separate from Unlimited; it can help you assess basic compatibility without establishing that every paid-server workflow will behave identically. This review makes no streaming-unblocking or speed claims based on hands-on testing.
Plans, first payment and renewal
Introductory offers and renewals are different billing periods. Compare the actual charge and included months, not only an advertised monthly equivalent.
