TorGuard Standard: separate the VPN from the extras
TorGuard Anonymous VPN Standard provides an encrypted connection and a shared VPN address. The provider also markets proxy services, dedicated addresses and more expensive VPN tiers. These products solve different problems, so a long list of TorGuard features should not be read as everything being included in Standard.
The name TorGuard does not establish use of the Tor anonymity network. Consider the VPN as one connection tool alongside account security and browser privacy controls. Its no-logs commitment is a provider statement; this review does not claim a newly performed infrastructure audit, leak test or hands-on anonymity assessment.
Count Standard’s 8 simultaneous connections
The current Standard plan card lists 8 simultaneous connections. Pro and Ultimate have different allowances, and generic promotional text elsewhere on the site sometimes mentions another number. Use the tier-specific allowance when counting the computers, phones and tablets you expect to leave connected at the same time.
Official downloads cover Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. A download being available does not establish that every client exposes the same controls or protocols. Check the current operating-system requirements and installation route, especially on Linux, rather than treating an older download table as a promise of support for every release.
Protocols and kill-switch controls need platform context
The Windows setup guide documents WireGuard and OpenVPN, and the provider’s iOS listing also names these protocols. This establishes useful options on those platforms without assuming identical behaviour elsewhere. A separately generated configuration can have different protections from the TorGuard application, even when both use the same underlying protocol.
The Windows guide documents a kill switch that starts disabled. Application termination, network blocking and manually configured firewall rules are different approaches, and should be tested separately. Standard-tier split-tunneling behaviour remains unverified here because official material mixes application-kill terminology with routing descriptions and also advertises split tunneling in a higher tier.
Understand the selected price and add-on cost
The main Standard page currently advertises USD 10.99 per month. A separate campaign page displays lower prices, but its wording and plan presentation differ. This review keeps the main monthly offer separate and does not borrow the campaign’s annual amount or renewal terms to create a combined offer that was never shown.
The monthly amount is the available initial price observation; renewal and a current annual checkout total remain unverified. Confirm those figures before subscribing. Dedicated IP is an additional purchase for Standard, while higher tiers may include one. That extra cost matters only if a stable personal address solves a practical requirement such as an IP allowlist.
Who should consider TorGuard Standard?
Standard is a useful candidate for someone who wants several concurrent devices and is prepared to check detailed configuration options. Router support includes compatible OpenWRT, DD-WRT and pfSense installations, which can help with devices that cannot run an app. A router’s model name alone is not sufficient; firmware and client compatibility matter.
Look elsewhere or seek clarification first if your decision depends on confirmed Standard split tunneling, an exact annual checkout offer or identical protections on every operating system. Port-forwarding availability should be matched to the intended server and use case. Speed, streaming compatibility and reconnection behaviour still require practical testing on the connection you will use.
Plans, first payment and renewal
Introductory offers and renewals are different billing periods. Compare the actual charge and included months, not only an advertised monthly equivalent.

- WireGuard / WireGuard-based protocol
WireGuard is documented in the Windows setup guide and provider-published iOS app listing. Other platform protocol scope not established by these sources.
Verified platforms: Windows, iOS.- OpenVPN
OpenVPN is documented in the Windows guide and provider-published iOS app listing. Native app and manual configuration capabilities should not be conflated.
Verified platforms: Windows, iOS.- Kill switch
The Windows setup guide documents a built-in kill switch, disabled by default. Application termination, firewall rules and full network blocking are distinct controls.
Verified platforms: Windows.- Router support
Official page lists compatible OpenWRT, DD-WRT and pfSense support. Router firmware must support an appropriate VPN client; this does not mean every router works.
- Split tunneling
Official Windows material labels application controls as split tunneling but also calls them App Kill, while the main page associates split tunneling with Ultimate. Standard-tier inclusion and exact routing behaviour require clarification.
Current support not verified.- Dedicated IP available
Dedicated IP is a separate paid service for Standard; the included dedicated IP advertised for Pro is not included in Standard.
Paid add-on; excluded from Standard price
Questions about TorGuard
How many devices can connect simultaneously?
8 simultaneous connections for the Standard tier. Pro and Ultimate have different allowances; generic page text is not applied to Standard.
Is the introductory monthly equivalent the renewal price?
No. It divides the exact first payment by its initial service period. Renewal is shown separately with its own charge and period; an unknown renewal is never inferred from the introductory offer.
Does a supported platform include every feature?
No. Protocols, split tunneling and kill switches can have different platform support. Use the feature descriptions above to check the app you intend to use.
Does TorGuard Standard include a dedicated IP?
A dedicated IP is a paid extra for Standard. Do not apply the included dedicated-IP benefit advertised for Pro to Standard.
Does TorGuard’s name mean it routes traffic through Tor?
No Tor-network routing is established by the name. This review concerns the paid TorGuard VPN service and its documented client features.
