Our assessment

PrivateVPN at a glance

PrivateVPN supports 10 simultaneous connections, desktop and mobile apps, and manual WireGuard/OpenVPN setups. Dynamic Dedicated IP locations differ from permanent static addresses.

Key capabilities

PrivateVPN supports 10 simultaneous connections, desktop and mobile apps, and manual WireGuard/OpenVPN setups. Dynamic Dedicated IP locations differ from permanent static addresses.

Limitations to check

Monthly and 3-month recurring totals verified. Long offer advertises 2.00 USD/month and 72 USD annual renewal after 36 months, but the initial total remains unverified. The current FAQ says plans start 12 USD/month, conflicting with the 9.90 USD homepage; use the specified offer rather than combining pages.

PrivateVPN connection controls and privacy expectations

PrivateVPN’s Connection Guard settings deserve attention before you rely on an unattended connection. The Windows, macOS and Android apps have documented kill-switch controls. On iOS, the setup guide ties its protection to IKEv2 rather than describing an identical switch for every protocol. This difference matters when selecting a connection method.

Treat these as documented features, not results from our own disruption tests. A VPN can change the address seen by a website and encrypt traffic between your device and its server, but it does not remove the identity attached to accounts you log into. Browser settings and account security remain separate decisions.

Ten connections and manual options beyond the apps

PrivateVPN allows 10 simultaneous VPN connections. That is an active connection limit, so consider background connections on phones and laptops as well as the machine in front of you. Installing the service on more devices does not mean all of them can stay connected at once under one account.

Windows, macOS, iOS and Android have native applications. Linux setup is manual, with OpenVPN, WireGuard and NetworkManager guides. Router instructions cover compatible firmware and specific connection methods. Those options offer flexibility, but they also require more setup than a native app; confirm your device and firmware before assuming an existing router is suitable.

External-client routing and Dynamic Dedicated IP

WireGuard support is documented through external-client configuration guides across the main platforms. Split routing can use WireGuard AllowedIPs on desktop or the external Android client’s app rules. These are useful capabilities for someone comfortable managing profiles, but they are not evidence of one identical built-in split-tunneling control in every PrivateVPN application.

The provider also offers locations labelled Dynamic Dedicated IP. The word dynamic is important: this is not a promise of a permanently reserved static address that will never change. If your requirement is a stable allowlisted address for a business system, check the precise assignment behaviour and available locations rather than choosing the service on the label alone.

Separate the first term from later annual billing

The readable official homepage states exact recurring charges for one-month and three-month plans. Its long offer advertises 36 months at a monthly equivalent, followed by a stated annual charge. The initial long-term total was not independently exposed in the reviewed page text, so it is not manufactured by multiplying a rounded monthly figure.

This leaves a real comparison limit rather than a zero price. Compare the verified short-plan charges and read the complete order before committing to the promotion. The long offer’s later billing period is shorter than its initial advertised access period. Also check whether your chosen payment method renews automatically and what cancellation means for that subscription.

Who should shortlist PrivateVPN?

PrivateVPN can suit a user who wants native desktop and mobile apps alongside manual configuration choices for Linux and routers. Its 10-connection allowance is easy to assess against a personal device list, and its external WireGuard and OpenVPN guides are relevant if you prefer controlling individual VPN profiles.

Consider a different option if you require a fully graphical Linux client, uniform native split tunneling or a guaranteed permanent static IP. The unknown first total on the long promotion should be checked before purchase. This review does not claim measured speeds, streaming access or leak-test performance; those require separate tests on the connection you will use.

Plans, first payment and renewal

Introductory offers and renewals are different billing periods. Compare the actual charge and included months, not only an advertised monthly equivalent.

Features and platform support

Support can differ between apps and operating systems. Platform coverage and limitations are shown below.

Windows

Native client is listed for this platform.

macOS

Native client is listed for this platform.

Linux

Manual Linux OpenVPN, WireGuard and NetworkManager setup; no native Linux app is claimed.

iOS

Native client is listed for this platform.

Android

Native client is listed for this platform.

WireGuard / WireGuard-based protocol

Official guides cover external WireGuard clients on all five platforms; this does not establish built-in WireGuard in every PrivateVPN app.

Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.
OpenVPN

OpenVPN Connect and manual setup guides cover all five platforms.

Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.
Kill switch

Windows/macOS/Android have documented app controls; iOS uses IKEv2-specific protection. Linux requires manual OpenVPN configuration and is not counted as native app protection.

Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, iOS, Android.
Router support

Compatible router firmware requires the relevant manual VPN configuration; not all routers support it.

Split tunneling

Manual WireGuard AllowedIPs routing on Windows/macOS/Linux; external WireGuard Android client can include/exclude apps. Not a uniform native PrivateVPN app switch.

Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android.
Dedicated IP available

Dynamic Dedicated IP locations are selectable in the apps. This is not a permanently assigned static IP; availability is limited to selected locations/protocols.

Questions about PrivateVPN

How many devices can connect simultaneously?

10 simultaneous VPN connections.

Is the introductory monthly equivalent the renewal price?

No. It divides the exact first payment by its initial service period. Renewal is shown separately with its own charge and period; an unknown renewal is never inferred from the introductory offer.

Does a supported platform include every feature?

No. Protocols, split tunneling and kill switches can have different platform support. Use the feature descriptions above to check the app you intend to use.

Is PrivateVPN Dynamic Dedicated IP permanently static?

No permanent static assignment is established by the Dynamic Dedicated IP label. Check the available location and assignment behaviour if you need an allowlisted address.

Does PrivateVPN have a native Linux app?

The reviewed Linux support uses manual OpenVPN, WireGuard and NetworkManager configuration. It is not represented as a native graphical application.

Before you choose
