Shared VPN access and the dedicated-IP tradeoff
OVPN distinguishes its normal shared-address service from the Public IPv4 add-on. A shared exit address is used by multiple customers, while the add-on reserves an address for your account. Choose between them according to the task: repeatable addressing can help a server or allowlist, but it changes the relationship between an address and your account.
The provider describes its servers as diskless and publishes information about its infrastructure. Those descriptions are relevant to a privacy assessment, but are not our own infrastructure inspection. A VPN also does not stop websites recognising accounts you sign into, or replace the security updates and access controls on your devices.
Desktop and mobile protocol choices differ
OVPN provides applications for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. Its desktop clients support both OpenVPN and WireGuard. The native mobile apps use WireGuard; using OpenVPN on a phone instead involves a separate client and configuration. That distinction matters if you want one consistent protocol setup across a laptop and phone.
The desktop kill switch can be configured for different behaviours, including protection only while connected or an always-on policy. The mobile guides describe always-enabled failure protection. Treat these as platform-specific controls, then check reconnects and local-network access on your device rather than assuming every app exposes the same settings or exceptions.
Windows exclusions and Public IPv4
The documented native split-tunneling feature applies to x64 Windows 10 and 11 with desktop client version 2.5.0 or later. It excludes selected processes from the VPN tunnel after reconnecting. This is useful when a particular application needs the ordinary connection, but excluded traffic must be assessed separately from the VPN-protected traffic.
Public IPv4 is a paid add-on, not part of the basic VPN price. Its dedicated address can suit hosting and remote access requirements, but should not be added simply to improve ordinary browsing. Check which server and protocol the add-on is configured to use, and avoid confusing it with the shared-address service or ordinary port forwarding.
Subscription length also changes the device allowance
The published offer lists four simultaneous devices on the monthly plan, five on the annual offer and seven on the 36-month offer. This makes a single universal device number misleading. Our conservative comparison uses the monthly allowance and spells out the other terms so that a short subscription never silently inherits the longest plan’s limit.
The official USD order summaries confirm USD 12 for one month, USD 59.88 for twelve months and USD 151.92 for thirty-six months. These totals were read from the order summary, rather than reconstructed from rounded monthly advertising. Renewal is also separate: OVPN’s terms say the applicable amount is shown in the account dashboard or communicated before renewal.
When OVPN belongs on your shortlist
OVPN is worth examining when you want desktop protocol choices and have a concrete need for the Windows routing controls or optional dedicated address. First count your active devices, choose the required subscription length, and confirm any additional charge. A longer-term device allowance is useful only if the overall commitment also fits your plans.
This review is a documented assessment rather than a practical performance test. Check location availability and your usual applications before making a long commitment, particularly if a specific streaming service, work resource or incoming connection matters. Advertised network capabilities cannot establish the speed, latency or accessibility you will see from your own internet connection.
Plans, first payment and renewal
Introductory offers and renewals are different billing periods. Compare the actual charge and included months, not only an advertised monthly equivalent.

Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.- OpenVPN
Native desktop apps support OpenVPN. Mobile OpenVPN requires a separate third-party client, not the native OVPN mobile app.
Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.- Kill switch
Desktop clients provide kill-switch controls. Official mobile guides describe always-enabled failure protection; do not assume identical OS behaviour.
Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.- Router support
Official configuration guides include compatible OpenWrt and other routers; supported firmware is required.
- Split tunneling
Application exclusions require x64 Windows 10/11 and desktop client 2.5.0 or later.
Verified platforms: Windows.- Dedicated IP available
Public IPv4 is a separate paid dedicated/static IPv4 add-on, excluded from the VPN subscription price.

Questions about OVPN
How many devices can connect simultaneously?
4 devices on monthly, 5 on annual and 7 on the 36-month offer. The comparison uses the conservative monthly allowance; verify the selected plan.
Is the introductory monthly equivalent the renewal price?
No. It divides the exact first payment by its initial service period. Renewal is shown separately with its own charge and period; an unknown renewal is never inferred from the introductory offer.
Does a supported platform include every feature?
No. Protocols, split tunneling and kill switches can have different platform support. Use the feature descriptions above to check the app you intend to use.
Does every OVPN plan allow seven devices?
No. The current page lists 4 devices for monthly, 5 for annual and 7 for the 36-month offer. Check the allowance for the term you choose.
Is Public IPv4 included in the OVPN subscription?
No. Public IPv4 is a paid dedicated-address add-on. Its price is separate from the VPN subscription and its account-linked address has a different privacy tradeoff from shared access.
Before you choose
