Our assessment

Norton VPN at a glance

Standalone Norton VPN Standard covers 10 devices in the observed US offer, with WireGuard, Windows/Android OpenVPN, kill switch and platform-specific split tunneling.

Key capabilities

Standalone Norton VPN Standard covers 10 devices in the observed US offer, with WireGuard, Windows/Android OpenVPN, kill switch and platform-specific split tunneling.

Limitations to check

Current US standalone Standard offer: USD80.73 for27months or USD67.35 for15months; each renews at USD99.99/year. Norton360, VPNPlus/Ultimate, app-store plans and other regional offers are separate.

Standalone VPN Standard is separate from Norton 360

This review covers standalone Norton VPN Standard in the observed US offer. Norton also sells VPN Plus, VPN Ultimate and Norton 360 security bundles. Their antivirus, backup or identity-related benefits should not be assumed to belong to Standard, even when the product names and account dashboard look similar.

Norton states that its VPN does not retain browsing activity logs. A VPN can change the public address used by your connection, but IP rotation is not a dedicated personal static address and does not remove account-based identification. Judge those privacy tools by their purpose rather than assuming that every feature creates complete online anonymity.

Match the device count to the regional plan

The current US Standard offer covers 10 devices. Earlier indexed offers and other regions can use different counts and introductory terms, so this review does not attach a lower-priced 1-device or 5-device offer to the current 10-device plan. Check the exact product and device allowance on the final order.

Norton lists Windows, macOS, Android and iOS apps, with additional support for selected television platforms. Linux and router compatibility have not been established for this standalone subscription. General Norton articles explaining VPNs on Linux or routers are not evidence that Norton VPN itself can be installed on those systems.

Protocols, split tunneling and the iOS kill switch

The official protocol table lists WireGuard on all four main native platforms. OpenVPN TCP and UDP are documented for Windows and Android, while macOS and iOS have WireGuard, IPsec and Mimic choices. A generic description of OpenVPN compatibility should therefore not be used to claim native OpenVPN support on every Norton app.

App exclusions are documented for Windows, macOS and Android, but not iOS. Kill-switch instructions cover the four platforms with current app versions. The newer iOS protocol guide allows the control with WireGuard or Mimic, not IPsec, whereas older guidance is narrower. Check the selected protocol and current app version when evaluating that protection.

Bonus months change the first term, not the renewal

The observed US Standard offer charges USD 67.35 for the first 15 months or USD 80.73 for the first 27 months. Each combines the purchased year or two years with three extra months. The introductory monthly equivalent uses those full service periods; it is not a smaller payment that can be made each month.

Both offers then renew at USD 99.99 for 12 months. A longer introductory term does not turn the later renewal into another 27-month purchase. Renewal prices can change, and tax or purchase eligibility may affect the final order. Monthly pricing was not established for this selected offer and is not invented from the annual equivalent.

When Norton VPN Standard makes sense

Standard belongs on a shortlist when you want a multi-device consumer VPN without buying a full security bundle. Its platform-specific protocol and exclusion controls may be useful across a mixed Windows, Mac and Android household. Start with the features needed on each device, then compare the complete upfront charge and later renewal.

Check whether an existing Norton subscription already includes an adequate VPN before paying for a second product. Consider alternatives if Linux, router installation, iOS app exclusions or a personal dedicated address are requirements. Speed, streaming success and interruption handling need practical tests on your actual connection; no hands-on performance result is claimed by this review.

Plans, first payment and renewal

Introductory offers and renewals are different billing periods. Compare the actual charge and included months, not only an advertised monthly equivalent.

Questions about Norton VPN

How many devices can connect simultaneously?

10 devices for the observed current US standalone VPN Standard offer. Do not combine with earlier 1/5-device plans or Norton360 bundle allowances.

Is the introductory monthly equivalent the renewal price?

No. It divides the exact first payment by its initial service period. Renewal is shown separately with its own charge and period; an unknown renewal is never inferred from the introductory offer.

Does a supported platform include every feature?

No. Protocols, split tunneling and kill switches can have different platform support. Use the feature descriptions above to check the app you intend to use.

Is Norton VPN Standard the same as Norton 360 Standard?

No. This review covers the standalone VPN Standard subscription. Norton 360 is a separate security bundle with different features, device allowances and prices.

Do the 3 extra months repeat when Norton VPN renews?

Not in the observed US offers. The first 15-month or 27-month term is followed by a 12-month renewal at USD99.99, subject to future price changes.

Before you choose

Regional offers, taxes and purchase channels can change the amount billed. Paid add-ons are identified separately, and unavailable pricing remains marked as not verified.
