Our assessment
A documented option for a mixed-device household
Ten simultaneous connections and app coverage across the five main platforms make Basic straightforward to compare across a household. NordLynx is WireGuard-based; treat it as NordVPN’s implementation rather than assuming generic WireGuard configuration.
Key capabilities
NordVPN supports ten simultaneous devices, desktop and mobile apps, NordLynx and OpenVPN, with split tunneling on selected platforms.
Limitations to check
Split tunneling is documented for Windows and Android. If that is your main requirement on an Apple device, compare the platform-specific support before choosing.

NordVPN privacy and logging
NordVPN’s no-logs approach concerns the activity carried through its VPN service. Its history includes repeated independent assurance engagements, with Deloitte carrying out the sixth engagement in 2025. That helps explain the service’s privacy positioning, but it does not establish that a particular server is fastest or that a particular streaming platform will always work.
The practical boundary is also important: changing your public IP address does not sign you out of websites or remove browser cookies. If a service already knows who you are through an account, using NordVPN does not make that account anonymous. The VPN connection and your browser or account settings address different parts of the problem.
NordLynx, OpenVPN and app support
NordLynx is NordVPN’s WireGuard-based protocol. That relationship is useful when comparing modern VPN protocols, but it should not be read as a promise that arbitrary third-party WireGuard configurations are interchangeable with the NordVPN app. OpenVPN offers another connection option, with setup and protocol controls differing by operating system.
Basic supports 10 simultaneous connections, making it possible to cover a combination of laptops, phones and tablets. Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android are represented in the app coverage. Before installing on a router, check the specific model and firmware rather than assuming that router compatibility follows automatically from having a NordVPN subscription.
When NordVPN’s routing controls matter
Split tunneling is covered here for Windows and Android. It can be useful when one application needs a direct connection while the rest of the device uses the VPN. Someone buying mainly for split tunneling on a Mac or iPhone should compare alternatives and platform support rather than relying on the general presence of the feature.
A selectable exit location can matter for regional work, travel and checking how a website responds from another place. It still changes the network’s IP location, not every location signal a device can provide. For ordinary browsing, a nearby exit can be a sensible starting point; specific latency or throughput claims require tests on the actual connection.
What NordVPN Basic includes in the price comparison
The prices in this review refer to Basic. Higher bundles and paid add-ons are separate buying decisions, so a feature advertised elsewhere in the NordVPN product range should not be assumed to be part of the Basic price. Dedicated IP, in particular, is a separate paid option.
The lowest introductory equivalent is calculated from the full first payment and the initial months included in that exact offer. An annual plan and a multi-year promotion can therefore produce different upfront commitments and different effective monthly rates. Renewal is shown on its own period; it is not calculated by extending the introductory discount indefinitely.
When NordVPN is a good fit—and when to compare further
NordVPN belongs on the shortlist for a household that wants broad app coverage, up to 10 simultaneous connections and a choice between NordLynx and OpenVPN. Its Windows and Android split-tunneling coverage is especially relevant if routing individual apps is part of your normal setup.
Compare further if your priority is a particular Apple-platform routing feature, an unlimited simultaneous-device allowance or a dedicated IP included in the base price. For a short purchase, compare the monthly charge with the full cost of a long prepaid offer. A lower equivalent rate is useful only if the term and features fit how long you expect to use the service.
Plans, first payment and renewal
Introductory offers and renewals are different billing periods. Compare the actual charge and included months, not only an advertised monthly equivalent.

- WireGuard / WireGuard-based protocol
NordLynx is built on WireGuard; distinguish it from generic WireGuard configuration. NordLynx is WireGuard-based; official support supplies OS tutorials for all five platforms. This is not a claim that every third-party WireGuard configuration is supported.
Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.- OpenVPN
OpenVPN is supported. Official switching guide has explicit Windows/macOS, Android/iOS and Linux GUI/CLI instructions for OpenVPN TCP/UDP.
Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.- Kill switch
Available on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux; operating behaviour varies by platform. Official feature page explicitly lists all five. Windows offers app/system controls; macOS app-closing behaviour differs. Do not present every platform as an identical system-wide always-on firewall.
Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.- Router support
Compatible firmware must provide an OpenVPN client; not every router is supported.
- Split tunneling
App split tunneling on Windows, Android and Android TV; browser extensions support website exclusions. App split tunneling documented for Windows and Android (also Android TV, outside the current platform filter). Browser-extension website exclusions do not establish native macOS/Linux/iOS split tunneling.
Verified platforms: Windows, Android.- Dedicated IP available
Optional paid add-on for the Basic tier; its charge is excluded from the VPN subscription price.
Paid add-on; excluded from VPN price
Questions about NordVPN
How many devices can connect simultaneously?
Up to 10 simultaneous devices on a single account.
Is the introductory monthly equivalent the renewal price?
No. It divides the exact first payment by its initial service period. Renewal is shown separately with its own charge and period; an unknown renewal is never inferred from the introductory offer.
Does a supported platform include every feature?
No. Protocols, split tunneling and kill switches can have different platform support. Use the feature descriptions above to check the app you intend to use.
Is NordLynx the same as a generic WireGuard configuration?
NordLynx is built on WireGuard, but NordVPN’s implementation and app controls should not be treated as interchangeable with every manual WireGuard setup.
Does the NordVPN Basic price include a dedicated IP?
No. A dedicated IP is a paid add-on and is not included in the Basic prices shown in this review.
Before you choose
