HMA privacy tools and the role of IP Shuffle
HMA is a paid VPN service with a stated no-logs policy, encrypted connections and controls such as IP Shuffle. Changing an exit address can reduce the consistency of the public IP seen by a website, but it does not remove browser cookies or prevent a signed-in account from identifying the same person.
A rotating address also differs from a dedicated personal IP. If you need a repeatable address for an allowlist, do not assume that HMA’s IP Shuffle or shared server selection solves that requirement. This review describes the documented tools and their limits rather than claiming a new audit or hands-on anonymity test.
The standard plan covers 5 concurrent devices
The standard HMA plan covered here permits 5 simultaneous connections across Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. A separate Family plan permits 10, but its larger allowance and different price should not be attached to the standard offer. Count active connections rather than simply the number of applications you install.
Current app pages list the four main desktop and mobile platforms. Older official material describes Linux and router configurations, but maintained current compatibility was not established here. Treat those routes as unverified rather than assuming an old installer or setup tutorial works on a modern distribution, router firmware or operating-system release.
OpenVPN, kill switch and Android app exclusions
HMA’s protocol description names OpenVPN for Windows and Android and IKEv2/IPsec for macOS and iOS. Current WireGuard support has not been established in this review. A service supporting one widely used VPN protocol should not automatically receive a positive mark for another protocol or for manual configuration export.
System-wide kill-switch coverage is documented for Windows, macOS and Android. Android also offers app split tunneling, allowing selected applications to use or bypass the connection. A Windows app-triggered automatic connection or application kill rule is a different feature from selectively routing traffic; desktop split-tunneling coverage is therefore not inferred from those controls.
Separate the initial HMA charge from the renewal
The observed US standard offers list USD 59.88 charged at once for 12 months and USD 107.64 for 36 months. The longer term produces a lower initial monthly equivalent because the upfront payment buys three years. It is still a commitment to pay the full amount before using that service period.
The renewal amount has not been verified for these offers. A crossed-out regular total is not reliable evidence of the next actual charge, so this review leaves renewal unknown rather than combining it with a promotional first payment. Regional currency, taxes and other purchase channels may produce different offers at checkout.
Where HMA belongs on a shortlist
HMA can be considered by someone who needs a manageable number of desktop and mobile connections and specifically values Android application exclusions. Its location-selection and automatic-connection controls may be useful for everyday browsing, but the relevant comparison is how those controls work on your operating system rather than the overall length of its feature list.
Seek clarification or choose another service if confirmed Linux support, router installation, WireGuard or an exact renewal quote is essential. A shorter commitment may be preferable when those points affect a purchase decision. Connection speed, streaming compatibility and interruption behaviour still require practical testing; no measured results or guaranteed access are claimed here.
Plans, first payment and renewal
Introductory offers and renewals are different billing periods. Compare the actual charge and included months, not only an advertised monthly equivalent.

Features and platform support
Support can differ between apps and operating systems. Platform coverage and limitations are shown below.
- Windows
Current official downloads and homepage list native windows support.
- macOS
Current official downloads and homepage list native macos support.
- Linux
Older 2019 official material describes Linux configurations, but current homepage/download navigation does not establish current Linux support. Compatibility remains unverified.
Current support not verified.- iOS
Current official downloads and homepage list native ios support.
- Android
Current official downloads and homepage list native android support.
- WireGuard / WireGuard-based protocol
Current WireGuard support was not verified. HMA’s documented OpenVPN or IPsec support does not imply WireGuard.
Current support not verified.- OpenVPN
Official protocol description identifies OpenVPN on Windows and Android; macOS/iOS use IKEv2/IPsec in that description.
Verified platforms: Windows, Android.- Kill switch
Official announcement documents a system-wide kill switch on Windows, macOS and Android; the current Android page also lists it. iOS blocking scope is unverified.
Verified platforms: Windows, macOS, Android.- Router support
Older official blog describes compatible router setup. Current maintained router documentation was not verified, so compatibility is unknown.
Current support not verified.- Split tunneling
Android app exclusions select which applications use the tunnel. Desktop/iOS split tunneling not established.
Verified platforms: Android.- Dedicated IP available
Personal dedicated-IP subscription not verified. IP Shuffle and shared exit addresses are not a dedicated static IP.
Current support not verified.
Questions about HMA
How many devices can connect simultaneously?
5 simultaneous devices on the standard plan; the separate Family plan covers10 and is not mixed into these prices.
Is the introductory monthly equivalent the renewal price?
No. It divides the exact first payment by its initial service period. Renewal is shown separately with its own charge and period; an unknown renewal is never inferred from the introductory offer.
Does a supported platform include every feature?
No. Protocols, split tunneling and kill switches can have different platform support. Use the feature descriptions above to check the app you intend to use.
Does the standard HMA plan cover 10 devices?
No. The standard plan reviewed here covers 5 simultaneous devices. The separate Family offer has a different device allowance and price.
Is HMA’s crossed-out regular price its renewal charge?
That has not been established for these offers. The listed first payments are verified, while renewal amounts remain unverified.
Before you choose
