Match the privacy tool to your actual task
Astrill provides several connection modes and routing controls, but a long feature list is not a guarantee that every kind of traffic takes the same path. Check the selected mode and any application or website exceptions before relying on it for a particular task. Deliberately excluded traffic follows a different privacy boundary.
A changed exit address also does not remove the identity attached to a signed-in website or protect an already compromised computer. Our assessment is based on the provider’s documented capabilities and terms, not an independent audit or a practical connection test. We do not convert claims about restrictive networks into a promise of access from a particular country.
Desktop and mobile apps have different capabilities
Astrill offers applications for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. The desktop software exposes several modes, including OpenVPN and Astrill’s modified WireGuard implementation. This should not be presented as a guarantee that a generic WireGuard profile works in every third-party client, or that every phone exposes the same protocol choices as the desktop app.
The account permits five simultaneous devices in one household. Marketing about connecting unlimited devices describes installations or supported equipment, not an unlimited active-connection allowance. Count the connections you expect to leave running, particularly when adding a router or a second computer, and check the applicable household rules before buying for multiple people.
Application filters, site filters and failure protection
Application filtering can tunnel all applications, only chosen applications, or everything except selected applications. The current feature page lists Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. Website filters and Smart Mode solve related but different problems; iOS Smart Mode should not be mistaken for a general per-application exclusion interface. Verify support in the installed app version.
Desktop kill-switch support is documented for Windows, macOS and Linux. Windows also has App Guard, which blocks selected applications independently of whether the Astrill interface remains open. Decide whether you need a whole-connection policy or protection for particular programs, then check reconnect behaviour and local services before leaving the configuration unattended.
Recurring prices and optional extras are separate
The standard public tariff is USD30 monthly, USD180 every year or USD300 every two years. Those are full recurring period charges, not the result of multiplying a rounded advertising figure. The longer plans reduce the monthly equivalent while committing more money upfront; they do not become cancellable monthly payments.
Private IP and VIP are separate paid options. A dedicated address can be useful when a repeatable IP is required, but is not automatically necessary for ordinary browsing. VIP has its own traffic-package terms. Compare the complete selected order rather than assuming that an advertised base price includes either extra or a reseller’s temporary promotion.
Who should consider Astrill?
Astrill belongs on a shortlist when you have a concrete need for its desktop routing controls, protocol modes or compatible-router applet. Start with those requirements, then compare the commitment and device limit with simpler alternatives. A specialised control is valuable only if you understand which traffic it changes and why your setup needs it.
Before committing for a year or two, check the required applications, operating systems and destinations on your actual network. This review does not claim measured latency, streaming access or connection reliability. Keep a record of the selected mode and exceptions so that a later configuration change does not silently undo the behaviour you originally intended.
Plans, first payment and renewal
Introductory offers and renewals are different billing periods. Compare the actual charge and included months, not only an advertised monthly equivalent.

Questions about Astrill
How many devices can connect simultaneously?
5 simultaneous devices in one household; unlimited installations are not unlimited active VPN connections.
Is the introductory monthly equivalent the renewal price?
No. It divides the exact first payment by its initial service period. Renewal is shown separately with its own charge and period; an unknown renewal is never inferred from the introductory offer.
Does a supported platform include every feature?
No. Protocols, split tunneling and kill switches can have different platform support. Use the feature descriptions above to check the app you intend to use.
Does Astrill allow unlimited simultaneous connections?
No. Personal plans document up to 5 simultaneous devices in one household. Unlimited installations or supported device types are not an unlimited active-connection allowance.
Are Private IP and VIP included in the standard Astrill price?
No. Private IP and VIP are separate paid add-ons. The base recurring prices shown here exclude those optional charges.
