Our assessment
AdGuard VPN Free at a glance
AdGuard VPN Free provides a 3 GB monthly allowance for up to 2 simultaneous devices, with fewer locations and reduced speeds after the allowance.
Key capabilities
AdGuard VPN Free provides a 3 GB monthly allowance for up to 2 simultaneous devices, with fewer locations and reduced speeds after the allowance.
Limitations to check
Ongoing free tier with 3 GB monthly allowance and 2 connections. Additional activity-based bonus data not assumed. Signup/account required; no verified requirement to enter a payment card for basic free access.
See platform support ↓A separate free VPN allowance
AdGuard VPN Free provides an ongoing entry tier alongside the paid Unlimited subscription. Its base allowance is 3 GB each month. This is the VPN product, separate from AdGuard’s ad-blocking applications and DNS services, so a feature advertised for another AdGuard product should not automatically be attributed to this account.
The free service does not become a paid subscription simply because the app is available at no download cost. Review the account screen and any optional upgrade separately before confirming a purchase. The basic free-access material reviewed here does not establish a payment-card requirement, but a blanket card-free guarantee is not assumed without an explicit statement.
Desktop, mobile and Linux choices
Free access is documented for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. AdGuard also explicitly provides a free Linux command-line version. Its installation and controls differ from a graphical desktop app, making the Linux documentation relevant even when you already know how to use the mobile interface.
Browser extensions are another option, but their scope differs from a whole-device VPN client. Choose the application that covers the traffic you intend to route. Conventional IKEv2/IPsec router setup is documented as a paid-subscription feature, so the free comparison does not present it as an included way to cover a whole household.
Exclusions and connection safeguards
AdGuard’s applications include controls for selecting which traffic uses the VPN, with different exclusions across operating systems. Desktop and Android application exclusions differ from domain-based rules on other platforms. Integrated operation alongside other AdGuard software can also change which controls are available.
The supported desktop and mobile applications document a kill switch. The apps use AdGuard’s own protocol rather than offering ordinary OpenVPN or WireGuard configuration compatibility. If your existing setup requires one of those protocols, do not assume a free AdGuard account can replace it. Check the relevant platform guide and connection mode before treating a general feature description as universal.
Data and location restrictions
The 3 GB monthly allowance is small for video, backups or large downloads. Once it is used, the provider says speed is reduced. Up to 2 devices can connect simultaneously, sharing the account’s limitations. A paid ten-device allowance should not be used when describing the free tier.
Only selected locations are available. Official pages currently disagree about the count, with the main free FAQ naming ten and Linux support naming four, so a universal fixed list is not promised here. Optional activities may provide bonus data, but the comparison uses the base allowance rather than assuming that every user completes a promotion.
A practical role for the free tier
AdGuard VPN Free can be useful for occasional connections and for checking whether its app workflow suits your devices. The Linux CLI option also provides a clearly documented free path for people comfortable with terminal-based configuration. Keep an eye on the remaining data when using more than one device.
It is less suitable for continuous streaming or large transfers. Streaming and location access are restricted, and the account cannot be treated as a smaller payment for the full Unlimited product. This assessment describes published features and limits; it does not claim independent speed measurements, verified streaming access or hands-on leak-test results.
Free plan and limits
This continuing free plan has no subscription charge. Check the actual allowance and restrictions before relying on it.
